The 2020 Law Group has worked with many clients in developing their "brand" and securing their rights in and to their trademarks and licensing others rights of use to the trademarks. Reid Schmidt provides this service as he is a registered trademark agent in both Canada and the United States and through his contact network is able to assist clients who are looking to secure and license their trademarks in the European Community and elsewhere throughout the world.

The trademark process always begins with a search of the relevant trademark databases with the Canadian trademarks being found at Canadian Intellectual Property Office Trade-marks Database and the United States trademarks being found at the United States Patent and Trademark Office Database. Many clients use these websites to pre-screen their proposed trademarks understanding that there are severe limitations associated with the search engines employed by the trademark offices. The search conducted by the 2020 Law Group is performed through a search engine that can only be accessed through a subscription service. This alternate search engine enables us to access other online databases and conduct more thorough searches.

Once a client has selected a trademark that is not confusingly similar with any of the prior applications or registrations identified in the search, the 2020 Law Group works with the client to identify all of the wares and services to be associated with that trademark and to develop a strategy to secure all related rights to that trademark, including available domain names. When the pending application has been approved by the client, the application is submitted to pertinent Trademarks Office.
