Copyright may be one of the most misunderstood laws in Canada and the United States. While simple in concept, the laws of copyright are complex and have a profound impact in the software, publishing, music, photography, art, theatre and movie industries. The reason that copyright is misunderstood and the complexity of the related issues is that most people do not understand that while they have purchased something that is subject to copyright that they do not "own" that item.
