The 2020 Law Group is a team of legal professionals whose clientele consist primarily of small to medium sized business, individuals looking to invest in businesses and real estate opportunities, people who want to secure their intellectual property and trademark rights, and individuals who are buying and selling their home or are planning their wills and estates.
The focus of the 2020 Law Group (and the basis for the name of our firm) is captured in our trademark "Clear Vision. Secure Future™" as we look to assist and clarify our client's vision of their future by working with them, their team of accountants, financial advisors, and other professionals that they rely upon. We then strive to put the necessary contracts, security documents like mortgages, general security agreements and other like documentation in place to secure their position for their future.
The 2020 Law Group is led by Reid Schmidt who has been a practicing lawyer in Alberta for over 11 years. What clients appreciate about dealing with Reid is their ability to discuss their issues and concerns with him in a manner that they are comfortable with (rather than that feeling of pressure and intimidation in dealing with "the lawyer") and whether their matter is straightforward or complicated, upon completion they have a clear understanding of the process and feel like they have been an active participant in the solution. The Truth
Okay so you are either inquisitive or believed there was another explanation of how we came up with the 2020 Law Group name.
The truth is that Reid had been searching for a name to advance the business of the firm and he refused to simply use the old standby "Barrister and Solicitor" because (a) he is not a barrister and many clients don't even know what this old English word means; and (b) he, like any other business person wants to distinguish his small business from that of all other businesses.
A number of names had been discussed and searched but nothing quite fit until one day, Reid was driving with others close to him and the comment was made that "Reid will never retire" to which he responded "Not true. I have it in my mind that I will retire on January 1, 2020". The immediate response was then "That's it. The new name of your firm should be 2020 Law".
Now for those of you who might be concerned that you won't have a lawyer after January 1, 2020, don't worry as Reid plans to have other lawyers introduced into the firm well before that "deadline".
